House of Commons Page Program- Deadline December 8, 2014

Each year, 40 students are selected from high schools and CEGEPs across Canada to come to Ottawa to work as paid Pages in the House of Commons. Pages have the opportunity to learn about the House of Commons while witnessing the legislative process first hand.

Those hired as Pages work on a part-time basis during their first year of study at one of the universities in the National Capital Region.

More information available at :  http://www.parl.gc.ca/hocpage.

Basic Requirements

To qualify, you must:

  • be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident;
  • be graduating from a secondary school or a CEGEP (with no academic interruptions) and be commencing full-time studies at one of the four universities in the National Capital Region in September of the year of employment as a Page;
  • have an overall academic average of at least 80% in the transcript of your final marks from last year (Grade 11 or secondary IV or your first year of CEGEP (Québec)), and maintain this average in subsequent transcripts of your marks;
  • be able to communicate fluently in both official languages as evaluated by the House of Commons; and
  • be accepted at one of the following universities in the National Capital Region: Carleton University, University of Ottawa, Saint Paul University or Université du Québec en Outaouais (UQO).
Please note that due to the heavy study demands and inflexibility of their academic timetables, students enrolled in certain faculties and courses of study, such as science and engineering, are unfortunately ineligible. This restriction also applies to law students at the University of Ottawa. Students who wish to pursue these disciplines may apply to be Pages if they agree to change their program of study while employed as a Page.

If you have additional questions, Please see Ms. Slivocka in the Guidance Office.
