STUDENT SCHEDULES

STUDENT SCHEDULES & CHANGE REQUESTS
As we begin another school year and dive into the business of getting all students and staff settled, please keep the following in mind when it comes to student schedules and the desire to make changes:

  • ALL STUDENTS MUST follow the schedule they received on Tuesday, September 8 unless they were provided a new schedule dated and initialled by Ms. Burke or Mr. Howes.
  • Students who wish to make changes must fill out an "ADD/DROP REQUEST" sheet which will be available in the guidance office at the end of day.
  • DEADLINE: All forms must be completed (inc. parent signature) and submitted to the guidance office by Friday, September 11.  ALL requests will be dealt with in the order they are received.
  • Any student in Gr. 9 -11 who has a 'STHALL" (spare) period on their schedule Sem 1 must report to the Guidance Office during that period.
FYI:  Regular appointments for the guidance department will resume September 14th, 2015.

NEW TEAM

STUDENT SERVICES - NEW TEAM -
 Welcome to the 2015-16 academic year.  Our entire student services department has undergone some significant changes.  In fact all the roles in our department are being filled by new people -some are familiar to Brennan students and staff, others are brand new.  Take a moment to get to know all these individuals in the coming weeks - they are all committed to making sure students and staff have a terrific academic year!

Guidance News June 26, 2015



Summer break is here !

Congratulations to all our graduates and award winners ! The well attended ceremony was  held at the Caboto Club on June 24, 2015 .

Both Mr. McEachern and Ms. Slivocka will be leaving Brennan at the end of the school year. Mr. McEachern is retiring after almost 31 years of service to Brennan and Ms. Slivocka is moving to Catholic Central. They say "we would like to thank both students and parents for their support over the years. It has been an honour working with the wonderful students of F.J. Brennan Catholic High School. Wishing you all the best in future endeavours. "

The new Department Head of Guidance will be Mr. Howes and he will be joined by Mrs. Burke. Our new Student Success Teacher is Mrs. Zanet. Lots of changes but all students will be well cared for.

Good luck to our grade 9, 10, 11 and 12 students for the 2015-16 school year.

The Ontario Student Assistance Program or OSAP is now open for students entering college or university in September 2015. It is strongly suggested that students submit the application prior to June 1 to qualify for need based grants and bursaries.

Course Selection 2015-2016

Course Selection for the 2015 2016 school year is now open for students.  On February 19,  all students received information on selecting their courses in Career Cruising.  Please assist your son or daughter with this.  All students were given information and a "Cheat sheet"at the assembly.  Students who were not present should see their Homeroom Teacher for the information. We are asking that all students have their course selections finalized by March 2nd, at the latest.   The course master is available to students in the Career Cruising site.  Guidance will be available February 23rd and 26th at lunch time to assist any student with questions. See the instructions below to help gain access to the site.

CAREER CRUISING – COURSE SELECTION INSTRUCTIONS

STEP 1:
  • Go to the board website: www.wecdsb.on.ca
  • Select Student Portal
  • Select Career Cruising
  • Username:  wecdsb-your 9 digit student number
  • Password: your 9 digit student number ( unless you changed your password ! ) See Guidance if you cannot log in.
  • Click on Login
NOTE: Students logging in from home may need to gain access to the site with an additional step. Use the word student for both the username and password, and then proceed with Career Cruising

STEP 2:
  • Add your email (This is highly recommended. Make sure it is one that you will use regularly.)
  • Agree to the terms of service and then hit "Submit"

Step 3:
  • Click on my IPP
  • Go to Choose My courses or Course Planner
  • Compulsory courses are highlighted in yellow
  • Elective courses are highlighted in white
  • Compulsory courses: click the course and select the appropriate level from the list provided then click add course
  • Elective courses: click on the white square that says elective, select Discipline from the menu, select the course then add
  • You must select a total of 8 courses (grade 12 students can select one spare)
  • Select 2 alternate courses (in case a scheduling conflict occurs)
  • You cannot submit if you do not complete the selection properly

Note: if a red flag appears when selecting a course, that may indicate you do not have the required prerequisite course.
A blue flag indicates you have already taken the course and it will not count as a credit.
There may also be a recommendation about the chosen course


Step 4:

  • Review all your choices, once you're happy with your selection click Submit
  • Once you click Submit, you will no longer be able to make changes to your course selection.
  • Your $50.00 is due by March 3- hand in to your period 1 teacher
  • Course verification sheets will be distributed to all students after March Break. If you need to make any changes you may do so at that time.
Cooperative Education:

  • A co-op application must be submitted in order to be considered for the co-op program.
  • Co op courses have a 2 or 3 credit value.
  • Choose COP3X9 ( if in grade 11 ) or COP4X9 ( if in grade 12 )as a course code (it will appear as two classes); 1/GWL is used if you wish a 3 period co-op
  • If you wish a full day co-op , please your guidance counsellor
  • You can take co-op more than once .

Meridian Scholarship


Meridian's Commitment to Communities Sean Jackson Scholars



Are you a dedicated volunteer or innovative community organizer entering a post-secondary institution in 20​15? If so we want to hear from you! You could be awarded a $10,000 scholarship to help fund your education!



About Sean Jackson

This scholarship is named in tribute to Meridian's first CEO, Sean Jackson. Sean served as Meridian's CEO from 2005-2012 and led our organization towards tremendous growth. He was equally strong in supporting his community having volunteered countless hours to a variety of causes and being influential in the creation of the Niagara Community Foundation in his role as a founding director. Meridian has created this scholarship to honour Sean's excellence in his role as CEO and as a community leader.



Scholarship Information

We are seeking out young students that will be graduating high school in 2015 (or have graduated high school within the past year) who are showcasing creative and innovative ways of helping their communities. There are many types of community support from volunteering with a charity, starting your own social enterprise, or finding a creative way solving a problem for people in need.
One student who shows an outstanding commitment to their community will be awarded a $10,000 scholarship to help them pursue their post-secondary education goals.

OHF BUrsary Program


$30,000 IS AVAILABLE TO ELIGIBLE
PLAYERS - COACHES - TRAINERS - OFFICIALS
The Ontario Hockey Federation Bursary Program was established to provide financial assistance to registered participants including players, coaches, trainers, and officials to help offset the cost of post secondary education. All students who are enrolled or plan to enroll in a Canadian post secondary institution are eligible to receive bursary funds.
