SNOW ANGELS

CARDINALS -Please consider signing up for Windsor's Snow Angel snow removal service.  It's specifically set up to help senior citizens and persons with physical disabilities by pairing them up with willing youth ready to help out. All you have to do is clear their sidewalks of snow within 12 hours of snowfall.

This activity looks great on a resume!

POST SECONDARY PLANNING

If you were absent last Wednesday and missed the POST SECONDARY PLANNING presentation the guidance department gave to all Gr. 12 students during period 3, please plan to attend a make-up presentation MONDAY in the Learning Hub (computer lab).  This presentation is for the benefit the of afternoon Co-op students and anyone who may have missed the original during period 3.

BUILD A DREAM ORGANIZERS ARE PROUD TO ANNOUNCE THEY HAVE SECURED NATALIE PANEK TO SPEAK IN THE AFTERNOON SESSION AT THEIR SYMPOSIUM NEXT WEEK.  There is still some space -You don't want to miss this. FIELD TRIP OPPORTUNITY:Are you in Gr. 12 and  INTERESTED IN EXPLORING ANY ONE OF THE 28 COLLEGES IN ONTARIO IN ONE CONVENIENT LOCATION? If so, sign up for the College Information Program.  The College Information Program (CIP) will be held at St. Clair College on FRIDAY, OCTOBER 20. All of the colleges in Ontario will be represented there and will be a great chance to get the scoop on any programs that have caught your attention. Lambton College is located in Sarnia and is the closest college to us in Windsor after St. Clair.  Again, sign up in your grade's Google classroom if you wish to attend by Wednesday morning.

VOLUNTEERING

The Fitness for Hospice group is organizing a series of triathlons and are looking for volunteers to help out with their events. Races will be held July 9th at the WFCU, and in Tecumseh the weekend of July 29th and 30th.

FREE CAMP FOR HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS

ATTENTION ALL FEMALE CARDINALS:  Every great technology business idea requires a programmer to share the passion and bring the vision to life.
If this interests you, consider applying to this  free camp, July 24 - 28 at the University of Windsor, high school girls will participate in software development and explore themes in health, environment and engineering.  University of Windsor female researchers in cancer research, medical physics and environmental geo-informatics will be profiled and connected workshop activities will be provided.
Registration is now open to any WECDSB high school student.Although some coding experience is preferred, it is not necessary to apply. Limited spaces available.

F.J. Brennan Parent Council is generously providing 4 bursaries to our graduating class at $500 each. Applications are now available in the guidance office or electronically in your Google Classroom. ANY graduating student is eligible (and encouraged) to submit an entry for consideration. 
NOTE: THE DEADLINE (Friday, June 16th) IS FIRM. No electronic submissions -only printed copies accepted.

BURSARY

ATTENTION GRADS: Is the death of one or both of your parents the reason you cannot afford to attend College or University next year?
 If you have serious intentions to attend College or University next year but due to financial problems may not be able to, then be sure to stop by the guidance office and pick up an application for the BBF Bursary. Up to $4000 dollars will be awarded to a student in need. 

Once again, applications for the $4000 dollar BBF Bursary are available at guidance to a deserving student who has suffered the loss of one or both parents. Come to guidance for more details.

SUMMER SCHOOL & E-LEARNING NEXT YEAR

All students interested in taking SUMMER SCHOOL this July -be it for a class you failed, an upgrade or reach ahead new credit, or even Co-op (something specialist high skills majors might consider) -you need to register PRONTO!  The deadline to submit your application to the guidance office is June 1.  

ARE YOU INTERESTED IN TAKING AN E-LEARNING COURSE NEXT YEAR?  If so, the time to select and register for a course IS NOW!  The chances of getting a course of YOUR choosing greatly diminishes after JUNE 1st.

SUMMER SCHOOL

A reminder to all students that summer school applications are available in your Google Classroom or you can find a hard copy in the Guidance Office.  Fill out the form with your parent signature and then return it to the Guidance Office.  Your counsellor will then meet with you to complete the registration.  

The deadline for summer school applications is THURSDAY JUNE 1st.

NEW PROGRAM LAUNCHES NEXT WEEK!

Amazing new LEARNING opportunity arrives at Brennan - INTRODUCING the new WECDSB CONSTRUCTION ACADEMY.




 This unique program is a REAL collaboration between F.J. Brennan and St. Joseph's H.S. and caters to our students who have an interest in the SKILLED TRADES, HANDS-ON LEARNING and careers in CONSTRUCTION. There are many partners in this project and includes HABITAT FOR HUMANITY. Students in this program will actually learn their skills as they build homes for Habitat!

Interested in finding out more?  Grade 10 students can sign up for a short trip to St. Joe's to meet Mr. McAiney and his construction program. Print out the FIELD TRIP PERMISSION form at this LINK, get it signed by your parents and drop it off at Guidance THURSDAY. (Forms arriving Tuesday will be accepted if there is space on the bus.)

Remember OSAP has been reconfigured and this graduating class is the first to take advantage of these great changes, which for some includes FREE TUITION!!

CO-OP IN ARMED FORCES!

ONE OF A KIND CO-OP EXPERIENCE - Are you interested in becoming a reservist for our ARMED FORCES? If so, please read the following files found here and here.  If you would like to attend a presentation to learn from the officers who co-ordinate the program, please complete this GOOGLE FORM. . (Presentation date is Monday, April 3rd)

Also note that there will be a parent information night on April 11th at the armories. Participants in this programs have the opportunity to earn four co-op credits in semester and get paid. Minimum age is 16 with at least 15 credits. Other conditions apply.

ST CLAIR COLLEGE OPEN HOUSE

Just a quick reminder St. Clair College will be having an Open House thisSaturday, March 25 from 10 am to 1 pm at all campuses.  Here are some of the activities:
 
·      Faculty will be on hand to answer any questions students and parents may have about their programs
·      Tours will be available in all of the program related labs, Student Support Services area, Residence and any athletic facilities
·      Student leaders will also be on-hand to answer questions about student/college life
·      Registration and Financial Aid representatives will be available to answer questions
·      Enter a ballot to win $1500.00 toward first semester tuition and other great prizes
·      Refreshment will be available to all of our guests
 
They welcome students from all grade level.

COURSE SELECTION VERIFICATION SHEETS have been distributed - Please make sure all Brennan students review them carefully by focusing on the course codes listed.  See this link below for a document to help you indicate any corrections or changes -if any, that need to be made.  You can also see our entire F.J. Brennan Course Calendar here.

RETURN all sheets SIGNED by a PARENT/GUARDIAN to your homeroom teacher by FRIDAY.  

PLEASE NOTE that if no course selections appear on your sheet, we are assuming that you will not be returning next year.  If that is not the case, please make appointments with your guidance counsellor.  For Gr. 12s considering returning, please see Ms. St.Pierre in attendance to pick up an application for admission to a fifth year.

COURSE SELECTIONS FOR 2017-18

 All of our students in Grade 9, 10 and 11 need to make their course selections for the upcoming academic year.  Student must do this electronically by logging on to their career cruising account and submitting their choices by Monday, Feb. 27th.   Don't forget that the school is also collecting the $50 activity fee which is due March 2nd

 

Students can find helpful documents on line through their grade's GOOGLE CLASSROOM hosted by the guidance department.  They can also find teacher help at lunch and after school in The Learning Hub right up until next Monday.  Of course, students may also request an appointment with their guidance counsellor.


Remember that course selections and collecting the $50 activity fee are vital steps in the planning of our school year.  Please ensure that the Brennan students in your household take the time to submit their courses electronically by MONDAY, Feb. 27 and pay their activity fee –in cash, by Tuesday, Feb. 28th.

COURSE SELECTIONS for 2017-18

To all students and their parents/guardians: 
This is a reminder that it is now time to start picking your courses for your next academic year.  Ms. Burke and Mr. Howes are doing presentations to remind students of what they need to do to complete the process.  For all students, it's time to start thinking and researching your options.  

If you have questions about making the right choice, please take time to talk to the teachers who teach the subjects you are interested in as well as make an appointment to your guidance counsellor.  

Course selections can not be taken lightly - they are a critical step in how our next school year will unfold.

DEADLINES:  All students must SUBMIT their course choices by Monday, Feb. 27th.  Also don't forget that the 50$ activity fee is also due.

SEMESTER 2 BEGINS THURSDAY (Feb. 2nd)

Semester 2 of the 2016-17 academic year begins THURSDAY, February 2nd.

Students should have previously inquired about any schedule changes or concerns  for their semester 2 classes.   Students who still wish to look into changes will need to make an appointment request with their counselor starting Monday, February 6th.  (Appt. requests will only be available starting Friday, Feb. 3)

As always, we will do the best we can to find the most appropriate schedule for all our students. Your patience and understanding is always appreciated..

COLLEGE APPLICATIONS ARE NOW DUE

Only 7 days left to apply to any of the 5000 College programs in Ontario. After Feb. 1st, many programs will still be available, but you will not be included in the first round of offers and will have to wait to see what's left. Many very popular or 'oversubscribed' programs will be closed and unavailable after Feb 1st. Either way, if you plan to apply to any College in Ontario, you would be wise to do it now and NOT miss the FEBRUARY 1st DEADLINE.

FINANCIAL WORKSHOP - Paying for College and University.

THIS TUESDAY -For all of our  Gr. 11 or 12 students, especially the Gr. 12 ones - please consider attending a workshop at the school board's office tomorrow evening starting at 6:30.  More importantly, make sure you invite your parent or guardian.   It will highlight some significant changes to OSAP as well as many other important details regarding paying for college or university.   

Yes, its true, college or university is not free.:-)   Get INFORMED, it will actually save you money!

These students share their ideas and provide advice to the minister on a variety of topics regarding Ontario's publicly-funded education system. MSAC is a place where students have a voice and where they will be heard.
